From streets to schools: Lighting the way to a brighter future for Jaipur's children.

Planting seeds of knowledge, igniting change.

Learn how Shwetaark provides an aspirational model of holistic education, with art and sports, culturally relevant pedagogy, and instruction in the local language.

Shwetaark is a transformative educational project established in 2010 by Flowering Tree in collaboration with I-India. The project serves vulnerable and migrant populations who live on the streets of Jaipur, Rajasthan. The project's name is derived from the Shwetaark flowering plant, which symbolizes beauty, life, and transformation. The project addresses the needs of marginalized children by providing transformative education, healthcare, security, and nutrition. The street schools brought schooling to children where they live, as most of them belong to uneducated and illiterate migrant families struggling to survive on the streets. Over the years, the project has opened 15 Shwetaark centers, benefitting 8,700 children and 3,700 households across 21 communities.

A well-rounded curriculum promotes fun while learning, and the students' physical and mental well-being is improved through regular health awareness camps and checkups. Efforts are made to help slum inhabitants obtain critical legal entitlements, such as UID/Aadhar cards, voter IDs, and medical insurance. In addition, the project has reached 1500 adolescent girls and women, helping build a stronger community.

Shwetaark Pathshala, a state-accredited school, was founded in 2017, meeting the educational needs of children who had earlier studied in the street schools. Shwetaark has helped 1737 children secure admission into government and private schools through the RTE program, and 1275 slum dwellers have secured free housing with the project's support. The project provides an aspirational model of holistic education, with art and sports, culturally relevant pedagogy, and instruction in the local language.
