Flowering Tree is a US based foundation whose mission is women’s development and children’s education in Asia.
Vision
Flowering Tree, through culturally based education and development, is helping to find a balanced way to interconnect the need for local life and community building with global forces and realities in a rapidly globalizing world. By fostering cross-cultural dialogue and encouraging local traditions, while combining these efforts with best modern practices, Flowering Tree seeks to meet the challenges and opportunities of modernity with understanding and openness.
Women and children make up nearly two thirds of any given population. Successful communities completely depend on the education and development of women and children. Flowering Tree seeds and nurtures programs and projects that help women and children discover the path from mere survival to a fulfilled human life. Our work recognizes the several coexisting worldviews that exist in contemporary life. It seeks practical ways to build bridges that harmoniously connect them. Flowering Tree therefore takes a facilitator’s role - creating imaginative projects that dynamically combine inner and outer development.
Why women and children?
When Flowering Tree seeds a project, it takes a leap of faith. The ongoing nurturing of the project forms the bedrock of shared values. Unless both parties bring the best effort of work and understanding, the project cannot grow to its full potential. This constant dialogue and feedback process of listening to the other, we hope, serves to build the best work possible. We believe that constantly learning how to do things better is a shared desire and journey. This model of listening, leading to better understanding, is the basis for Flowering Tree process.
Our Approach
